Coincidently, I was looking at the NOAA website this morning. They've got everything you've ever wanted to know about ELTs: http://www.sarsat.noaa.gov/ Gary John, This thread got me thinking about an ELT as well. They're reasonably priced (~$200), and the new versions are much more accurate than the older ones. The unit listed below even has voice transmission capabilities to search and rescue teams. http://www.sportflyingshop.com/Avionics/ELT/elt.html I'm not sure if it's a violation to use an ELT for non-aviation related use, but if you're stranded, do you really care if the FAA cites you? Better to be cited and alive, than a popsicle. Cheers, Jeff --------------------------------- Want to start your own business? Learn how on Yahoo! Small Business.
