My Type 4 mechanic recommend throwing away my stock exhaust (which included a catalytic converter) in favor of a Bugpack header & muffler combo. Not only in the interest of power, but apparently for lower cylinder head temps. Since I added the CHT guage after the exhaust upgrade, I can't be too sure of this. Outside temp during trip ~ 50 degs. 1 hour long trip. Full loaded w/ family of four and full propane & water tanks. Downshifting to third under 55mph. A vanagon has the same type4 engine as my bus, so 450 is tolerable, sustained driving above 475 is to be avoided. This time around I had a CHT guage added. On the highway it would be between 300 and 400 degs. Never quite reaching 400 - hovering normally around 350 degs. 375 when climbing hills or driving at 70 mph down the HOV lane. Is that normal? My Bug mechanic says high should be 375 for a Bug. Anyone getting similar results?? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
