When my 2.1 gave up the ghost couple years back, I was on the fence between a GoWesty 2.2 and a Boston Engine 2.1 (with mild porting). In the end, it was all about the money. I couldn't justify the additional cost for what little difference there would have been with that extra .1 liter displacement (particularly since I live in California and would have had to pay sales tax for the 2.2). Now, not having seen a GoWesty engine, I can't say anything about workmanship; but having installed one of Bob's engines now, I seriously doubt GoWesty could do any better. It was simply beautiful. And the hardware kit he offers is well worth the minimal expense. Having every nut, bolt, gasket, and washer you might possibly need is indispensable. I've put 10K miles on that engine in the 2 years I've had it, much of that long trips through places like Interstate 15 from LA to Vegas, with steep grades and 100+ degree temps, and not a single bit of trouble. -- John Bange '90 Vanagon - "Geldsauger" "Staubkess bolt? I have one of those?"
