Though I swore off being an airhead years ago, attending BBTB this time seems to have triggered a relapse. I just now went and looked at a 1971 Bus, for sale cheap not too far away. It was a fine sunny afternoon and I decided to check it out in the warmth of the day. I pulled up in my 88 GL hauler right across the street from the address given but I did not see it. What I did see right near me was a cherry looking Type 34 Variant, a very rare Karman Ghia made VW like this one. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=407266 In the same driveway was a clean 1966 or so Splitty Camper. When I finally spotted the 71 across the street behind a fence my head was spinning as I walked over and waited. The owner pulled up shortly and I started looking it over closely on the outside. Not as nice as described but nicer than many I have seen. Then the sun seemed to dim as I raised the rear lid. Little bits of engine case were sitting inside the engine compartment on all the flat surfaces. The spell was broken and faded away even more when I pulled up the front floor mat and saw the ground through the rust holes. Not beyond redemption but a fallen angel for sure. Mark
