Subject:Re: Westy table

I put a Westy table arm bracket on the passenger side and a swivel base
under that seat in my 85 Weekender. With the seat reversed, this made
a have a nice place to set up the laptop. My son and I have used the
Weekender to camp at remote astronomy gatherings and use astronomy
software to plan what we are going to try to see at night and to record
our observations. So the laptop often gets a good bit of use during the
day and at night (with a red plastic film over it to avoid ruining you
night vision.)

I put some of the adhesive backed rubber material that can be put on
steps to make them less of a slip hazard on the table surface to
minimize slippage of items on the table top when driving. It doesn't
look great - its gray on a beige table, but it works.

I keep meaning to build a table top that has a lip around it and perhaps
cut a couple of large holes to serve as cup holders, but haven't gotten
around to finalizing a plan. I was going to make the table narrower so
that you could still use the arm rests.

I have also thought about making a shorter table arm so that the narrow
table would sit lower and also maybe mounting the table so that it
extended a few inches closer to the shift lever making it easier to
access things on the table.

So, these are still just roughly conceived thoughts.
