actually, no, that's not a stupid question. Siphon-Transmitted-Defects
are a serious problem in older cars, and usually begin with gas tanks
or gas filler necks. at present, there is no cure except surgery, and
failure to repair the problem can lead to terminal junkyard presence
and eventual crushing.  it's a national crises-in-the-making but no
one in government seems to care. :(

now ... getting the rust off your siphon, that's your own problem.
