Once upon a time
  In a house we had in a forested area, we had kitchen mice come in under the sink.  My husband and then 3 year old daughter, trapped the mouse in a have-a-heart trap, then took it out to a field next door and let it loose.  For weeks they kept trapping mice.  Each time they would scribe a mark on the mouse trap.  After the 99th  mark...  my husband admitted each mouse looked identical to the last mouse.  Next day, that little beady eyed mouse got dropped off 5 miles down the way and we never had mice again...
