Two of the three pins run to an inductive sensor mounted in the engine case
near the fly wheel/flex plate. You can see it there where the case flares
out to attach to the bell housing, top side, right of center. When hooked up
to the appropriate expensive VW dealer device, it gives engine RPM. Kinda
the long way to a short end and not very exciting.

The third pin connects to nothing.
