Some people like Optima. I have 2 Odyssey's, (this one :
(http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc1200.htm) both the same, one for
start, one for aux. Look in the vanagon.com archives under Mark Drillock:

All these were searching for his posts with "aux battery."
There are probably more with "rewire" or something like that.
