I had 2 '78 westys my last one had ~180,000 and never was opened up.
maintanance consisted of only of a few seals and exhaust, still had the original clutch.  I just changed the oil every 1500 and tuned it by ear to ping a little when lugged in 4th gear warmed up on a hot day. I would get another one in a heartbeat1
