Hi all. All this talk of grounds recently. Well... Did a pile of work to van. Redisigned some stuff, pedal cluster bushings, etc. etc. Anyone who has been really bored lately might have noticed the many postings I have made. Anyhow... Got the dash back on, cluster on, and it fired right up! Fan worked, newly designed foot flap works. Air recirc seems to work and stock vent controls seal WAY better. Me real happy. Then..... I turn on headlights. Yellow HB ind. stays on, green (sig) ind. faint...... with van off and turn signal on, yellow and green flash alternately. Me real sad. Me want divorce. So...... I almost posted a long question yapping about pin 53b missing on wiper switch etc. Big theories about an intermittent connection on pin 53b while testing new wiper motor, green and yellow lights flashing, black holes,...... thought better of that and while following another wire, I found .......wait for it...... an unplugged ground! Previously I had dutifully cleaned the two ground-stars on d-side where a bunch of grounds meet. I neglected to put one back on. All good now. Me happy! (btw, there is no pin 53b on the connector on the female socket to wiper motor switch on my van) Bottom line: for those hesitant to study wiring diagrams, (as I was) do it anyways. It eventually sinks in. i.e. I didn't know where the female mini spade on brown wire from pin 31 on rear defrost connected. I tried to follow it, but lost it. I read Bentley, again, saw that it ended at "68" looked up "68" (though hard to read in my copy) saw that "68" was within current track of 61-69: emergency flasher switch. Found tiny connector, plugged in, and now dispaly light works on flasher. Duh. Cheers, Neil. -- Neil Nicholson. 1981 Air Cooled Westfalia. http://web.mac.com/tubaneil
