The fumes would probably kill some poor kid with a peanut allergy... or an wandering elephant might show an unhealthy interest in your van. AFAIK the commonly-used cooking oil with the highest 'smoke point' is canola oil. You can get hand-held pump sprayers in the kitchen section at Wally-world or wherever for spraying cooking oil, if you really wanted to give that a go (the oil is too thick for regular garden sprayers generally) . Let us know how it works for you. : ) Cya, Robert ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Collum" <collum@VERIZON.NET> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Monday, April 23, 2007 9:40 PM Subject: Peanut oil on exhaust system? > How about slathering a new exhaust system with peanut oil, every time > you drive it, until a coating, not unlike a black iron skillet, is built > up? > > It may not do anything to protect the system but folks would surely be > impressed by the way your van smells when you drive by. > > Mike
