'86 Westy

Can anyone tell me how to take the metal plate off the inside of the
distributer to check the hall sensor wires.  Metering the sensor says
its ok, but I want to check the wires because its an intermittent
problem.  I also don't have a timing light, removing this place does
not require a re-timing...does it?
