Not these helmets directly, but their ancestors, maybe. The pilots / flight crew on the B-52's I used to be crew chief for had helmets that were specially fitted for "PLTZ" goggles. The initials stood for the elements that made up the special crystals in the glass. They were supposed to be able to sense the flash from a nuclear detonation, and darken before the flight crew was (permanently) blinded. Very fast reaction to high light levels. Great to see the idea used for more constructive purposes. Was worth a case of beer (ransom, for their safe return, don't ya know) to the ground crewman who found a set that got left on the airplane after a flight... ; ~ P Rob <becida@COMCAST.NET> wrote: Does anyone have any experience with the Harbor Freight auto darkening welding helmets? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91214 Thanks, Rob becida@comcast.net
