Vanagons were sold with 1.9 waterboxers in mid model year 1982 in Europe and Canada.I own one and yes I'm sure it's an 82.

No matter--in the sense that aircooled fresh air blowers
and the watercooled heater blowers all use the same clip
to hold the blower box together:  321 819 059
