Yep, that was the line I got from the seller. He said the boots were installed in-correct, "the air has to bled out of them". So I ask: Then why did one outer boot fail and one inner? Why not all 4 on my vehicle? I installed them all the same... And- Why didn't the replacement Meistersatz boots fail? I installed those just the same as the Rockfords.. Come to think of it, why didn't the boots on my Merkur, Mercedes or Audis fail if I don't know how to install them? (None were manufactured by Rockford). Just a note- the Rockford install was not my first attempt at installing CV boots. I didn't "learn" on this project. I think it's safe to say the material properties of the Rockford boots were sub-standard. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of TC Sent: Tuesday, July 24, 2007 3:13 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Rockford cv boots opinions > My friend's father opened a CV axle repair shop a while back; he rebuilt his > axles with Rockford boots. > > At the time I had a Scirocco and another friend had a MK1 GTI. > We both were in need of new boots and purchased Rockford boots from > above-mentioned friend's father. > > 4 of the 8 total boots we purchased failed after about 2 months on our > vehicles. > I could understand if one boot failed, but 50% is a bit high. > Needless to say, I would never buy Rockford again. wow good info that jives with some posts on thesamba it looks like some people think they are best thing since sliced bread then there are these type stories did those boots split down the seam ? The rockford boots are heavier & are harder to get on I wonder if the bad results are some install issue ?
