This is interesting. All of the tailpipes I've seen on the aftermarket side of availability for the past 18 years or so have been Dansk/Denmark, which essentially has supplied VAG - perhaps they have someone else making them now (doubtful, since the last ones rolled off the line in Germany in 1992 [not counting the SA ones]). I even have a Dansk tailpipe on my 84 Westy - for the past 10 years - through most any kind of weather. Granted, I live in Southern California, but I travel extensively throughout the country at most anytime of the year, through most types of weather (rain, snow, etc.). Other than looking 10 years old, no appreciable cancer type rust (other than surface rust) has afflicted my tailpipe. Do you keep your Vanagon parked during the fall/winter months? Lotsa salt on the roads then? In my travels, I've seen rotted out tailpipes on Late Bay Window & Vanagons here and there and have often wondered why they are or what has contributed to that condition. Inquiring minds and all that........;-) -- Jim Thompson 84 GL 1.9 "Gloria" 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 73 K Ghia Coupe "Denise" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com *********************************** On 7/26/07, Kim Brennan <kimbrennan@mac.com> wrote: > > So on the GoldBrick the tailpipe rusted out...again.
