According to the Mitchell shop manual: " Engine Assembly R&I and O/H. Level A Mechanic. Includes replace rings, main and rod bearings, crankshaft and cam shaft. Remove cylinder ridge, grind valves and tune engine minor". Air cooled Vanagon, 80-83, 16.9 hours. "Where AC interferes, add 1.0". "Auto trans, add 1.2". Water cooled is 21.1 Dennis
