In a message dated 08/08/2007 11:12:18 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, LISTSERV@GERRY.VANAGON.COM writes: According to the Mitchell shop manual: " Engine Assembly R&I and O/H. Level A Mechanic. Includes replace rings, main and rod bearings, crankshaft and cam shaft. Remove cylinder ridge, grind valves and tune engine minor". Air cooled Vanagon, 80-83, 16.9 hours. "Where AC interferes, add 1.0". "Auto trans, add 1.2". Water cooled is 21.1 AND, I bet this covers the time needed to remove, replace, repair rusted, seized, corroded parts, finding the parts, cleaning of corroded, oil encrusted aluminium parts.....NOT ! I work by time alone, what it takes is what you get charged for. If you don't like that go somewhere else. Working on ANTIQUE vehicles is not covered by any Mitchell manual.
