Subject:AC - Happy!

Yesterday it was over 100 degrees where I live. I've only been using my
Westy regularly for the past 6 weeks. I've tried out the air conditioner,
but it did 't cool the front very well. Yesterday I turned on the AC, and it
was sort of silent. Then, about 2 minutes later all of a sudden, there a
wonderful burst of ice cold air which continued flowing out of the rear
vents, and actually reached the front of the van! This was great, and so
far, (only about 16 hours later) nothing has changed. I'm hoping it won't
change because it'll be going up to 108 degrees today!

I've read about AC vent blockages in this forum, but could not understand my
Bentley on how to open the vent panel and check inside. I'm also wondering
about the side vents right above the sliding door. Nothing at all comes out
of them. Is there another publication to use in conjunction with the
Bentley that will give more detailed instructions for complete beginners?

Also another "issue" When I take my first ride of the day, the van feels
like it's going to stall when I give it gas. I have to ease on the gas
EXTREMELY gently to avoid this feeling of slowing down. If I treat it very,
very gently, it will not feel like it's going to stop, and all subsequent
starts are normal.

While the van WILL accelerate uphill, usually right after starting, it will
not accelerate at all. This has been a little scary, especially when
entering a freeway.

I'm so new at this that I don't even know what to ask a mechanic to check,
but there are a few highly recommended VW mechanics not so far from where I
live in the Los Angeles area. Over all, I'm very pleased with my Westy. I
think the seller was honest and gave me a reasonably fair deal on it.
