They were around way Subaru powered Vanagons.

A company called MSDS even used to market the pieces to put a 3.2 Carrera
motor in. The kit from the gold Panzerwagen in this website is now sitting
in boxes in my office. If I ever get around to finding a cheap 3.2, one of
my Vanagons will probably get a new powerplant.
