Porsche transaxles have been installed in vanagons of course. It's one of the few transaxles that 'turns the right way' ( i.e. you can't take a say, subaru transaxle and turn it around and put it in the rear of a vanagon ) . So perhaps a porsche waterboxer engine and trans together in a vanagon ! And IF there is an automatic AWD porsche rear-mounted transaxle, that isn't controlled electronically...................I'd sure be interested in one of those. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Andrew Grebneff Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 10:49 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: porsche engine conversions >You would use the porsche heater boxes. >You could also put in a watercooled porsche engine. >I don't know the year - early 2000's maybe ...porsche went to all >watercooled engines - not sure when the change is, but all 911's, Boxsters, >and now the new sports model - they're all water cooled. I believe that Porschewasserboxers don't fit Porscheluftboxer transmissions at all. That means an adaptor plate to fit a VW trans, which will then blow. Or a kit to fit it to an aircooled Porsche trans. -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand Fossil preparator Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut , Opinions stated are mine, not of the University of Otago "There is water at the bottom of the ocean" - Talking Heads
