Oh you guys. I think how long a transmission or transaxle lasts is 90 % how it's driven and what gear oil is in it, and how long you leave it in there, and only 10 % about what engine is driving that trans, even if it is considerably more powerful than the stock engine. No body likes to be easy on equipment just because it's a wonderful thing to do ? Scott www.turbovans.com someone who has almost never had any transmission, especially vw, fail in any way. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Todd Last Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2007 2:59 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Porsche in a van This idea reminds me of Bill Harrah's 1977 Jeep Wagoneer which he had a Ferrari V12 installed in. aka the Jerrari. Wonder how long the transfer case lasted in that vehicle. -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Don Hanson <dhanson@GORGE.NET> > If I had unlimited funds, I would be tempted to stick in a GTR 997-based Cup > car drive line.. > > ABS, traction control, and a six-speed sequential tranny..Couple that to > the water cooled proven motor at around 500 hp..What more could a Van guy > with waay too much spendable funding want? > They also offered a few years of AWD cars, the Carrera 4(?).. > The problem is, the gears would not for long take the extra weight of > moving a Van at ~4000lbs as opposed to the Porsche racecar at 3000..Of > course, back to the "unlimited funds" and who cares...build a spare, keep > one at the shop all the time, like the rich-guy racers do.. > Don Hanson
