You could adapt a throttle position sensor to replace the original wiper rheostat, but I think the TPS is a mechanical device too so you would be going sideways. A TPS would still be cheaper than a AFM to replace. If you don't want any mechanical wear you are left with an optical or magnetic sensor. The problem is both of these devices are basically high/low sensors and don't offer a "range" of values as would be required by the original AFM device. TM- you say you don't want to spend the time and effort to convert to Megasquirt, but by the time you re-invent the idle stabilizer and airflow meter you could already be running a modern, cost effective, fully tunable setup. *cough* MS... Having said that, your efforts are appreciated and make for good reading. Keep bringing the ideas forward. -----Original Message----- From: tinker man [mailto:tinkerman007@gmail.com] Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2007 8:21 PM To: pdooley Cc: vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com Subject: Re: Replacement AFM technology Nope, I'm looking for an simple, inexpensive solution that will not require any mechanical engineering or replacement of the AFM, and can be installed right into the AFM as a simple upgrade (PCB ugrade), and will not wear like the current solution...
