If you fully charge your batteries and start the engine up with
the alternator disconnected you can still drive without charging
a long way, as long as you use as little as you can any signals,
brake and horn, no head light either. You may be able to drive
to Redding or Ashland non stop. Then you can find a shop there
to get your alternator checked out or replaced.
