I put a new phone line in my Mom's house, from the box on the
outside of the house to a spot about 15' away and through an
exterior wall.  At the new outlet, I get a dial tone but the
modem (remember modems?) doesn't work.  It dials out but
cannot connect to the modem at the other end.

The other outlet in the house, whose wire comes from the same box
and goes through the attic, works fine for both voice and modem.

Any idea what the %$^& is going on?  I'm stumped.  Bah.
