Subject:90GL cold start trouble Part II/UPDATE
Date:Sat, 20 Oct 2007 16:10:42 -0500

Folks: Done some research through the Haltech website and some serious head scratching and here's what I've ascertained.

1. The van starts hardest after an overnight rest, nigh on impossible this past week.
2. Rainy weather seems to make it harder to start.
3. Roll starting it in the morning, it fires right up.

Initially, I thought like several of you that the engine wasn't getting gas from whatever cold start program Haltech has in there. Once the engine starts, that's not the case; it runs fine. Only sitting in the work parking lot all day seems to be about the length of time necessary for it to not start again. 2-3 hours breaks between startings aren't affected. Could there be enough residual gas vapor in the intake maifold/comustion chamber in those shorter stops to eliminate the "need" for the cold start program resulting in a fairly easy start? Iguess the ambient air temperature sensor in the air cleaner could also be at fault.

I'm thinking that maybe(and confirmed by the Haltech troublshooting guide) that there might be some sort of signal cutting out to the Haltech ECU when the starter is engaged. I doubt seriously that that X relay in the fuse block could be the cause, but something is making it nearly impossible for it to start after 7-10 hours of sitting while the starter is engaged. The only flaw in that thinking is that last winter when it would only balk at starting when it got below 10 degrees F, it is now exhibiting those same symptoms at 50 and 60 degrees F. If the Hall sender were going bad, it wouldn't run well period, not just at start up. My cat housing has nothing in it except the O2 sensor. Anyone that curious about Haltech can go to their website( www.haltech.com ) and click on support or downloads and see what's shakin'

What sort of wiring or electrical issues do I need to look out for here if that is indeed the problem?

Thanks
