have not changed fluid yet(3 quarts plus+ of 80w?) will do so if nothing found loose on third go over. noise in every gear, but intermittent as posted earlier.

engine and tranny rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago(170,000) on van.

thanks jack

Have you changed your trans fluid? How does the magnet on the drain plug
look? Do you have any tranny leaks? Start there, also check your rear axles
to make sure they don't have any loose bolts. Do you get the "Bang Bang" in
all gears? How many miles on the van, trans?

Subject: transmission toasted?

i have been getting a banging noise when i decelerate in gear, that seems to
be a lot less when i give the van a bit more gas. i have no grinding, and
no problem at all going between gears. all shifting is smooth and there is
no hesitation at all. but, as said, a bang bang bang occurs every now and
then while in gear. it is not a constant, as it seems to occur more later
in the day after some use than at first start up.
any ideas as to for what i should be looking? bearing or gear on the way
out? oil level low?

help appreciated
