Our local Home Depot sells stranded steel cable.  I'm not sure what
it's
made of, but we use it as throttle and clutch cables in our off road
rails
all the time.  We just use a barrel clamp, from the beetle style
carb, on
each end to secure it.

Actually you would have better luck searching for wire rope.

McMaster has quite a bit.

OK cheeeeeep skate question anyone know where to buy just the actual
steel
cable alone ???
