I'm in that exact demographic.  The van of choice is the Honda, or Toyota if you have more money.   Had an 02 EV MVWK with the vr6. Sold it and picked up a Honda element.  The Syncro westy won out.

Couldn't practically justify having two vans, although the EV drove really nice and definitely inspired some envy from the likes of other minivan owners

They won't sell many of them. Where is the differentiation?

The retro bus idea would have done well stateside,  just like the beetle has IMHO
