I'm assuming you meant 87 degree thermostat Scott. Matthew, if the temperature doesn't get high enough the ECU stays open loop costing you a serious MPG penalty. The oil temperature may not get high enough to burn off the condensed water and the unburned fuel from your over-enriched injection costing you a serious mile per engine penalty. :) On Dec 9, 2007 1:35 PM, Scott Daniel - Shazam <scottdaniel@turbovans.com> wrote: > And therefore you are running way too cool, and wasting fuel, and hurting > your engine. > I run only the 78 C t-stat, and like to see the temp needle just on the > right edge of the LED. > I get seriously nervous if the temp needle won't get above 1/4. > I'm serious too, you are really wasting fuel and hurting your engine. > Cooler is not better, warmer is. > This 'cooler is better' is left over from the air-cooled days. > Do whatever you like, but you are costing yourself considerable $ / year > in > wasted fuel costs, not to mention shortening the life of your engine. > Scott foss > www.turbovans.com > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of > Vdub Guy > Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2007 11:32 AM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: 2.1wbx into 85 GL > > http://www.oldvolkshome.com/19to21.htm > > > Excellent advice.
