As far as a replacement value.......if you want a higher one, just let the insurance company know up front and raise the premium value. You will pay more, but be covered for what you feel comfortable with. I had my 91 Syncro Westy appraised and have it covered for a replacement value of $50,000. I have 4 late model Syncro vans on one policy with Progressive and it is roughly $2200.00 a year total. dylan ----- Original Message ---- From: John Lauterbach <lauterba@BELLSOUTH.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Saturday, December 29, 2007 2:58:24 PM Subject: Re: ISO Vanagon appraiser in SF Bay Area Your insurance agent should be able to give you name of at least one appraiser who would be acceptable to your insurance company. Appraiser who did my '84 Vanagon specializes in antique cars. While he did not come up with the value I would have liked, it was far better than the used car book. I have an 85 Westy that we've put a bit of $$$ into, including the Gowesty 2.3 engine and want to minimize the chance of lowballing insurance companies should the unthinkable happen. My insurance guy said I should get an independent appraisal... then they would cover the vehicle for that amount instead of the Bluebook value.Anyone have experience with doing this?
