Could the "x" possibly be a "+"?  Does the other terminal have a "-"?
It's too cold and dark to crawl under my truck now and look. Maybe tomorow.

I just replaced the fuel pum in my van.  How do you tell which wire is
supposed to attac where?  On the new pump there is an X near one of the
terminals and no marking on the old.  They are both Bosch pumps.
