I sometimes use permatex gasket sealer on hose connections. I use the red 'hi tack' .........i don't' know what number it is. ( # 2 I think would be the dark stuff that hardens- I don't use that one ever , but you could try it. ) the 'good hose clamps' are stainless steel ones from germany with slightly turned up edges so they don't cut the hose. A flaps one will work. Btw.............just using a screw driver to tighten hose clamps is *never* really adequate. It's imperative almost to use a nut driver, or even quarter inch drive socket and extension. And check their tightness now and then. Also, don't cream it down so hard it cuts the hose.... Which is semi-likely with a FLAPS type hose clamp. The original springy ones- they don't work well enough eventually and I usually replace all of those that I have to ever touch. Before I replace the hose, I'd like to try replacing the clamp and perhaps use some sealant goop on the connection. So, any advice on clamps? Will any old FLAPS hose clamp work ok? And what about sealing goop? I saw a website that recommended permatex #2. Any thoughts? Thanks much.
