And.......for the first time in about 25 years they are calling what was the Golf, the Rabbit, which is what it was originally called here, the first front wheel drive water cooled vw little econ-boxes. Now they're Rabbits again like they should be called ! I think there's even a cute Rabbit logo on the back of the car. Saw one down at my vw dealer today. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Andrew Grebneff Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2008 12:11 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: bus? >On Jan 9, 2008, at 11:49 PM, Andrew Grebneff wrote: > >>The "Eurovan" was only called that in North America... in Japan IT >>was the Vanagon. > >Yeah I believe it's still sold in Europe as the Caravel or something >close to that name... > >Allan The T4 "Eurovan" is out of production in Germany, though no doubt the T5 comes with a Caravelle version. My 84 T3 is a Caravelle. All VW vans (apart from the LT) are officially Transporters; names like Caravelle or Kombi are grades. In some markets VW marketers for some strange reason decided not to follow the official normal names... witness Rabbit, Dasher, Quantum, Vanagon... -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand Fossil preparator Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut , Opinions stated are mine, not those of Otago University "There is water at the bottom of the ocean" - Talking Heads
