Wife of a very close friend got sick one day, went to their doctor.
Some blood testing and lab diagnoses later the doctor sent her to
a hospital (a fairly sizable one with hundreds of beds). After
being hospitalized (without really knowing why) she almost completely
broke down. The doctor found her liver severely infected and it was
life threatening.
The doctor asked her if she had been to Mexico. The answer was no but
I wondered why the doctor asked the question. I don't think the question
was for no specific reason. So yes, be cautious about what to eat and
drink in Mexico, including Baja.
