One could  make  it  1/4 inch smaller than final size so the edges could be
rolled, rather than have a sharp edge.

No, I ran outside and measured an 84 that has the grills off.

I'd say you could make the cut smaller than 6.75" to give less chance of
the cut edge showing from above if that is a concern. Maybe 6"?
