Correct. There is no way we could get a T5 here a reasonable price. They are even expensive in Germany. So, best case scenario is VW actually does build some plants here AND produces their own van. The other "acceptable" thing would be for VW to add allot more "VW" to the current Routan, i.e., VW engines, suspension, etc. That import tax ain't going away. How's Ford going to claim "The Best Selling Pickup in America" if we allow competition? ;) Bryan -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of John Runberg Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2008 11:54 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Letter to VW Good on 'ya - great letter. But to be honest, to get to $30k you're either going to have to build it in the Americas or get the govt. to drop the import tariffs. IIRC, it was called the "chicken tax" and was slated for repeal in 2006. Don't know what happened to it and there's debate on what would trigger the tax. Do remember the dealer complaining that an import tax made the Eurovan too $$ to compete in the US. john
