Daryl,

Thanks. The tranny will be out so filling should not be a problem. I do not know the history of this trans. As far as I know it is original to the van and the oil was last filled in 1986. My problem happened while push starting the van. I'm not 100% sure what I broke, but I'm assuming it is the TO bearing or clutch. When this happened last fall, I drove it 25 miles home and did not have any problems other than I had to match revs to shift. Prior to this happening, I have had absolutely no problems with the tranny. Once I get it out, is there anything I can check to give me an idea of the status of the infamous 3-4 slider?

Thanks,
Clint

Any name brand oil would likely be OK..There are a few varieties that are
75/90 synthetic out there, and most are fine for general usage on an older
trans. The key for longevity is mostly to just change the goo once in a
while..Remove the filler plug first before draining the oil if trans is
still in the van, so if its stuck, you won't be having to fill it from the
drain plug hole.
