Subject:Re: Vanagon 1.9 Cat on Jetta 2.0 engine?

Since you are installing a later engine, you are required to have all of
the emissions equipment that was on that engine-vehicle when it was
manufactured. This is a federal requirement. We are just lucky that at the
state level, few states have enforcement for conversions or better yet
there are so many areas that do not even have emissions programs.

Thanks Jake et al.

Turns out the whole parts scavenging was a bust. The spare front lower
grill had a broken tang at the bottom and the cat and exhaust looked
pretty iffy.

The van was pretty much gone through by the time I got there.

Pretty sure my '81 isn't technically required to have a cat. Just
trying to be nicer to the oxygen we breath by installing one.

Cheers,

Neil.
