Good idea, Ken. I did test at the alternator and at the battery. After replacing the bad ring terminal, I got the alt and the bat to read the same voltage. I am assuming that the fact that I can't get more the 14v at the alt means it's just not generating more than that? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kenneth Lewis <kdlewis@northstate.net> Date: Sun, Mar 23, 2008 at 9:11 AM Subject: Re: [VANAGON] Battery and alternator - generic auto electric To: mordo <helmut.blong@gmail.com> Cc: vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com To really test it I would energize all the electrical consumers, lights, fans, A/C, 1400W sud-woofers etc.. and THEN measure the voltage at the alternator. I like to use it's case as ground. Should be > 13.6 volts. Next move over to the battery posts. On our 85 I measured two volts loss! With some extra wiring I got that figure under one half a volt. -- Ken Lewis http://neksiwel.20m.com/ -- mordo 1990 Carat
