After reading some of these ideas, I think you'd do best to let the van do the talking.
 
I'll never forget the first time I was invited to go for a trip in an '82 Diesel ASI converison VW Vanagon.  I remember sitting perched up in the passenger seat thinking, "man, this thing is really tacky!"  Less than 2 years later, I bought my own.
