I need an 83 gas cap for the air-cooled Vanagon and the dealers keep saying 'one size fits all'.  The filler tube is up close to the bottom of the gas cap on the 83 and later years it's further away. So when I buy one of the caps they bottom out on the filler tube before I can secure it in the body.   Can anyone verify this or did someone modify my filler tube?
