Sounds familiar. A colleague just told me he totaled his last week and a high school chum (officer) showed up to deal with it. A few years ago my auto was totaled and the officer knew the two other parties (two WSU employees and two city) and of course I got the ticket, had me insurance increased for three years AND had to fight it in court (won) to avoid 2nd degree negligence or some sort. There's nothing new under the sun.
