Hello folks, I have a new (to me) 1984 Vanagon, the fuel pump is loud. The PO told me (I picked it up Sat) he had it in the shop several times for the noisy pump, they had replaced it and it was still noisy. The pump is insulated to try and deaden the sound. FWIW this is a really clean westy, the guy (second owner) had it for 20 years and really took care of it. On a fuel related issue the gauge is not accurate, with the needle still above the orange it started missing at idle and really didn't want to go up a small hill. 5 gallons from a gas can took care of that problem. Other than look at it I have done nothing yet. 1) Bad pump? 2) Dirty tank? (looks like a new filter going into the pump) 2) Does the pump have vibration mount? Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks, Rob becida@comcast.net '91 VW Jetta, a '79 VW Westy & an '84 Westy in western WA
