Hi Ryan, As the guy who runs the "True Canadian Winter Bus Campout", I will not be the one to tell you it's too cold to camp. We have a great time out in the woods at -20, every year. I haven't been cold yet at TCWBC. http://www.pottsfamily.ca/The_Bug_Pack/TCWBC/ It is possible to camp comfortably in ANY weather. The trick is to be properly prepared for the conditions. As has already been said, a good sleeping bag is critical. As are lots of warm, dry clothes. A hat and appropriate footwear are also highly recommended. And finally, the menu is also very important. People NEED a lot more calories in cold weather than they do in warm weather. Plan on adding snacks and hot drinks to the menu. Hot chocolate, Mulled wine, tea, or even warmed up fruit juice can do wonders to keep one motivated on a chilly afternoon. THE PLUS: Yes, there is a plus side to cold-weather camping. First off, there won't be ANY flies or mosquitoes at that temp. There will also be no crowds, making the best sites in the park will suddenly be a lot more available. And the campfire will become all the more cozy. Properly equipped, you can have a great time out there.
