According to my back-of-an-envelope calculations, installingmudflaps on the otherthree wheels will increase airstream drag and lowerMPG to the tune of about 0.26 which works out to about$1.12 for every100 miles. When we get to $5 per gallon, you can up that estimate by another twenty cents. And, in headwinds the drag coefficient increases exponentially. Conversely, if you can manage to drive in tailwinds only, then the variable mudflap cost approaches zero. So....., how much do mudflaps really cost? Come to think of it, I'm going toyank offmy driver's side mudflap right now!
