Jeff even with these loads, these mileages are too low. Something is wrong. Is it a syncro? I just drove my 2WD Westy completely loaded, plus rooftop box, plus folding canoe bag in the luggage rack which sticks up about a foot across the van half across th country at about 75mph. I got 17.5 GPS verified mpg. Now I admit I have a subie engine, but it doesnt make that much of a difference in mpg. On the note of people saying to put a rack on the back and not on the top - maybe, but it still takes fuel. I had a Eurovan Diesel for years, and if i would put an empty bike rack on the rear hatch I wold loose 10% mileage. Florian
