Remove all paint to bare metal, don't contaminate the bare metal with any oils or esp. Armor All type stuff... keep that far away! Use a good epoxy enamel primer, then go with a base coat - clear coat paint combo, for the best results! See link to photo of these results. http://www.flickr.com/photos/77623993@N00/2634100682/ Jack -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Angus Gordon Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2008 11:15 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Painting Van Tip's needed Tremclad = Canada Rustoleum = U.S. I'm a big fan of roller/brush paint jobs. I'd agree with Craig that thinning the next coat more might help. Or maybe adopt a 12 foot standard! How about running the engine with one plug wire removed to help settle the paint? :-) Angus -- Angus Gordon '86 Syncro '89 Carat birdworks@gmail.com On Tue, Jul 1, 2008 at 6:11 PM, craig cowan <phishman068@gmail.com> wrote: > My guess would be you either didn't thin it (or didn't thin it enough), > shook it (The instructions should have been clear on STIRRING), or maybe > you > didn't clean the surface well enough before applying.
