I would have to try and maybe rephrase the question slightly - as in "What change did us the least good, or was the least of an improvement?" or maybe "What change made the Vanagon harder to work with, or work on / keep operational?"

the other paw, has the AC controls over next to the glove box. I think
that's a pretty stupid change.

Of course, going from the round headlights to the rectangular DOT
headlights was another bad move (though the rectangular European
headlights are fine.)
